Comparing the Benefits of Latex and Memory Foam

Consumers looking for a more comfortable sleeping surface have been considering the benefits of both memory foam and latex mattresses for quite sometime now. Both materials are known for their ability to distribute body weight and relieve pressure points. As the baby boomer generation ages, they have begun to look for more comfort than is generally offered by conventional inner-spring mattresses. It is very common to see both latex and memory foam utilized as plush toppers by many of the major mattresses manufacturers, and some have even begun to produce full foam or latex mattresses, without inner-springs.

Tempur-Pedic mattresses have led the way in introducing consumers to mattresses that replace inner-springs in the core of the mattress with foam. This configuration creates a mattress that is much more effective in distributing your body weight smoothly over the surface area of the mattress. Add to that the pressure relieving qualities of a layer of memory foam and you have a mattress that is much easier on our aging joints. However, memory foam is not without some drawbacks that can influence the purchasing decisions of some consumers.

The single biggest concern about memory foam mattresses is that they sleep hot. The fact that your body sinks into the mattress surface makes it harder for air to circulate and the compressed memory foam absorbs body heat. Memory foam also depends on the ambient air temperature to be warm enough for it to respond effectively. In a cold bedroom, memory foam can be very firm and will take longer to respond to body weight and heat. That being said, the popularity of memory foam mattresses is no surprise, as they will gently cradle your body and relieve pressure points, an experience that is hard to achieve in conventional inner-spring mattresses.
A latex mattress has much the same quality as memory foam when it comes to distributing body weight and relieving pressure points. The similarities end here, as latex has some distinct advantages over memory foam. All natural latex is a sustainable resource harvested from the sap of the rubber tree. Natural latex is anti-microbial, resists dust mites, mold and mildew and is the most durable of all sleeping surfaces. Latex is available in a variety of firmness levels, rated by an ILD number, making it easy to fine tune firmness levels for different body weights and sleeping positions. With the current concerns about toxic chemicals used as fire-retardants in mattresses, an all natural latex mattress, covered only with cotton and wool, is the perfect solution for chemical-free safe sleep.

Coil inner-spring mattresses first became popular around the turn of the century and have been refined many times in an effort to provide body support that also conforms to body shape. Pillowtops are widely used to provide an additional conforming layer to add to the comfort of conventional inner-spring mattresses. The motion transfer associated with inner-springs is good indications that it's much more difficult for these mattresses to individually conform to body weight and sleep position. Foam mattresses, either a latex mattress or memory foam mattress, have very little motion transfer, for the simple reason that they are much more effective in isolating their response to individual weight and sleep position. It goes without saying that an individual response creates much more comfort, whether you're a couple or sleeping alone.

There is a very distinct difference in the feel of the core of a conventional inner-spring mattress and the feel of a "plush" or "pillowtop" created as a conforming layer for that mattress. More and more manufacturers use foam, memory foam or latex in their pillowtop layer due to the high level of comfort provided by these materials. Pillowtops are not necessary with either a latex mattress or a memory foam mattress.

In a latex mattress the core uses the same material as the conforming layer, making the entire mattress more effective in evenly distributing body weight and gently conforming to body shape and sleep position. Usually a core of about 6 inches is comprised of firmer latex, while a softer layer of about 2 inches is sufficient for a plush feel on the surface. Rather than having two distinctly separate layers, composed of different materials, the two layers of latex both work in harmony to create a unified feel to the latex mattress. A quality latex mattress is unmatched in durability, and maintains the same firmness level for the life of the mattress, unlike inner-spring mattresses which slowly breakdown over time. Latex and memory foam provide the best choices in modern mattress materials.

Popularity Of Latex Mattresses

The mattress market is seeing a dramatic shift in the way people are buying beds. More and more people are seeing that the right bed can play a key role in being well rested and ache free.

Consequently they are turning away from their conventional innerspring mattresses which create pressure points that cause tossing and turning in search of a better alternative. Tempurpedic has poured money into advertising their viscoelastic memory foam mattresses, fueling interest in spring free mattresses.

People who are allured by the intrigue of the “space foam” are often unfulfilled by the lifeless feel of memory foam, and begin searching in a new direction. As a result latex mattress makers are experiencing a substantial boom in sales.

Latex international, the top US manufacturer of latex mattress components and latex pillows, is currently generating sales around $80 million a year showing an average increase of approximately 30 percent a year since 2001. With high end mattresses showing an industry average increase of roughly 20 percent, latex mattress producers are ahead of the curve.

This astounding and steady increase in sales is not because of some ingenious new marketing scheme, it simply reflects the consumer response to a quality product. Latex mattresses provide a sleeping surface that relieves pressure points better than memory foam.

They are naturally dust mite resistant and anti microbial, which makes an incredible difference to people who suffer from allergies and asthma. Unlike other mattresses on the market today latex mattresses are biodegradable, and are made from natural, sustainable resources. With an average life span of 20 years, nearly twice those of other beds, latex mattresses outlast the competition.

Looking to the future this trend has no end in sight. With the price of polyurethane foam recently jumping a whopping 55% due to factory closures, the margin between premium latex mattresses and other mattresses narrows giving latex the clear advantage.

Ben Hermsen, a latex mattress and foam cushion engineer, is a manager for http://www.foamsource.com where he champions the benefits of latex mattresses, toppers and pillows for both individual health and also the preservation of our natural environment.

A Latex Mattress at Any Cost - Shopping Guidelines

Many informed consumers have begun seeking mattresses free from chemical off-gassing and possible toxic fire-retardants, now in use as a result of the new open-flame federal fire codes, which went into effect in July, 2007. Not only have mattress manufacturers continued to use a variety of fire-retardant chemicals, many of which are banned in Europe due to toxic side-effects, but the concentrations of topically applied chemicals to fire-proof mattresses have increased substantially. For example, it is not uncommon to find as much as one and half pounds of chemicals saturating the mattress ticking in a conventional queen sized mattress.

Many consumers, after careful research on the internet, reach the conclusion that the healthiest mattress solution is the purchase of a latex mattress. However, for many, the cost of a latex mattress can be a budget buster, particularly when considering all natural latex mattresses. A natural latex mattress is generally created by using at least 2 layers of all natural latex, covered in organic cotton with organic wool batting, which is a natural fire-retardant. Mattresses constructed with these components will typically cost as much as 2 to 3 thousand dollars for a queen sized mattress.

However, the benefits of latex are certainly available in more affordable all latex mattresses, which can be priced below a thousand dollars for a queen sized mattress. Substituting blended latex, with high natural content, and a cover that avoids the use of topically applied chemical fire-retardants, can create a significant cost advantage in all latex mattresses. In addition to lowering cost, mattress manufacturers using blended latex often feel that it adds a plus by combining the elasticity of natural latex with the consistent quality and durability of synthetic latex.

Off-gassing, which is generally the result of accelerators and curing agents used in the creation of polyurethane foam, is not a problem with either all natural or blended latex. For example, blended latex, made in the USA by Latex International, has been certified to contain no harmful substances and has passed Europe's stringent Oeko-Tex standards. In addition, latex is hypo-allergenic, anti-microbial and resistant to mild, mildew and dust mites. When considering latex used for a mattress, become familiar with the manufacturer to avoid latex of inferior quality, which is generally the result of fillers added to the latex. "Fillers," tiny particles of clay or other materials that are mixed into the foam, make the resulting latex less costly, but also stiffer and less durable. The term "pure latex" typically refers to latex that does not include fillers, and can be applied to either synthetic or natural latex. Most higher-quality latex mattresses use pure latex.

The same consideration for materials used in the choice of latex for your mattress should also be applied when considering mattress covers. Mattress covers that are fire-retardant as a result of fire-resistant fibers are far superior to covers with topically applied fire-retardants, which often use toxic chemicals. An added advantage, when considering a latex mattress, is that it is not necessary to add any fire-retardant to the latex itself, while many conventional mattresses have topical fire-retardant applied directly to the mattress ticking.

The use of more affordable materials allows quality mattress manufacturers to offer latex mattresses, with all the benefits of pure latex, at a more affordable price than "natural" latex mattresses. While all natural latex, with an organic wool cover, assures the consumer of the most "natural" mattress possible, quality latex, with a non-toxic mattress cover, continues to offers the tremendous benefits of latex to the consumer, at a more affordable price point.

A quality latex mattress, constructed without the added expense of a natural wool cover and all natural latex, is a very wise mattress choice. Latex mattresses with more affordable components offer the durability, unsurpassed sleeping comfort and hypo-allergenic qualities only available with all latex mattresses, and are a superior choice to the traditional inner-spring mattress. In the effort to find a safe sleeping surface for you and your family, remember that quality latex mattresses stand alone as incorporating the best in non-toxic mattress construction, regardless of the use of all natural components.

Latex Mattress vs Memory Foam Mattress

(latex mattress)

Basic Difference Between Memory Foam Mattresses and Latex Foam Mattresses

Memory foam mattress and latex foam mattress have equally contributed to quality sleep and comfort and both are beneficial. It may be the personal choice of people which one they prefer. Here, we will discuss both mattresses one by one.

Memory foam mattress can really be of great relief for those who are suffering from backache and chronic fatigue. Patients of chronic fatigue are simply written off as slothful and hypochondriacs. It has been proved that chronic lack of energy includes short-term memory loss, sore throat, impairment of concentration and non-refreshing sleep and so on. Thus, memory foam mattress can play a significant role to cure chronic fatigue syndrome.

According to experts, it has been proved that having a sound, profound sleep at night will allow the person to remain energetic and free from fatigue and laziness. People will remain calm and composed throughout the day and will solve their day-to-day problems. Therefore, you must not compromise with the quality of your memory foam mattress on which you spend almost one-third of your life.

Now the second best idea of suitable foam mattress is of latex foam mattress. These kinds of mattresses are made of the juice of rubber tress. However, latex foam mattresses today are made of synthetic latex. This has reduced its cost substantially which otherwise is quite expensive.

Now, with the reduction in price of latex foam mattresses, the market of latex foam mattresses has increased substantially. Generally, the surface of the latex foam mattress is treated as the most suitable surface to rest on. Due to this, its demand has soared high. This foam mattress smoothly supports your neck, hips, shoulders, back and even spine.

Latex foam mattresses do possess some extraordinary properties due to which germs and bacteria do not germinate.

Due to above-mentioned qualities of both the mattresses, more and more people are getting attracted towards them. It is a commonly asked question which one is better, memory foam mattress or latex foam mattress?

Being in the industry for many years and studied both these fantastic products, Id say memory foam has edged ahead of latex foam.

Latex Mattress

Use of mattresses to ease our body constrains from day to day work pressure and desire to sleep comfortably and relaxed without any sort of disturbance. After a day filled with stress, sitting on a chair in one posture and working continuously each and every person wants a relaxed and sound sleep. Thus mattresses should be comfortable enough.

Latex mattresses are popular spring mattresses used commonly by athletes and have a good quality of no flip. Flipping is not required with latex mattresses. Latex mattresses have a beneficial property of being warm in winter and cool in summers. An emulsion of polymer micro particles in an aqueous medium is Latex. It may either be natural or synthetic. Latex in its natural form is the milky sap of many plants that has the tendency to coagulate on exposure to air and is biodegradable.

Latex is very long lasting and does not sustain molds, bacteria, mildews and other microorganisms. They are thrice more impervious to microbes than other ordinary mattresses. It is made up of proteins, sugars, oils, tannins, resins, alkaloids, starches and gums. Latex can be in variety of colours such as white, yellow, orange and even scarlet. It is also used to refer to natural latex rubber; particularly for non-vulcanized rubber. Synthetically polymerizing a monomer that has been emulsified with surfactants leads to the formation of artificial latex. The laticiferous system of plants found in roots or stem of plants contains latex in cells and vessels. The latex of many plant species can be processed to produce other materials.

Latex provides the commercially popular natural rubber as the most important product. Primarily, our latex choice can be either NaturalSense or Talalay process latex. These both types of latex result in long lasting and more resilient latex. NaturalSense latex is 100% natural and therefore has achieved the perfect resilience and longevity, while the Talalay Latex contains a mixture of synthetic and natural latex. Natural talalay is also available in market but is more expensive.A quality innerspring latex mattress should last long, be durable, strong, insect resistant and anti-sagging. Latex Mattress is perfect for the ultimate combination of luxury and practicality. All natural Latex Mattresses are multi-layered with enhanced support.

Latex mattress customarily adjusts to the contours of our body, providing comfortable orthopedic support thereby maintaining proper alignment of spinal cord without impacting capillary blood flow restriction. Latex has a major drawback as it is allergen and might cause anaphylactic shocks. Residues of other components used for processing of latex also act as possible allergens and cause reactions known as multiple chemical sensitivity.

Latex Mattress Guide

(latex mattress)

Latex Overview
Although they have been available for many decades, latex mattresses are currently experiencing a resurgence in popularity, particularly in Europe. In general, latex shares many of the benefits of memory foam, particularly in terms of its exceptional support and durability. However, latex lacks the highly conforming nature and slow recovery time that characterize memory foam. For those who dislike these aspects of memory foam, whether due to the warmth of the mattress, difficulty in changing positions or otherwise, latex is a very compelling alternative. Fans of latex praise its well-balanced support, long lifespan (which in some cases can exceed 20 years) and allergen resistance. Critics cite challenges in finding the perfect combination of comfort and support, as well as the somewhat rubbery smell of latex mattresses.

Latex Mattress Construction
Like memory foam beds, latex beds tend to be relatively simple in their construction. Typically, a latex mattress consists of anywhere from 1 to 4 layers, with the bottom layer (known as the "core") being the firmest, and each layer above getting progressively softer. The core, which provides the underlying support for the mattress, tends to be about 5-6" thick and is typically made from either relatively dense latex (in high-quality latex mattresses) or polyurethane foam. The upper layers, also known as the "comfort" layers, are designed to give the bed a softer feel and are most often made from either softer latex or memory foam.

Latex typically contains numerous "pincore holes" — deep, cylindrical holes spread throughout the mattress to help soften its feel. Larger pincore holes create a softer feel. Some manufacturers place different-sized holes in different parts of the mattress in order to offer different zones of support and comfort for the various parts of the body.

Types of Latex
Latex mattresses can be made from either natural or synthetic latex, or (more typically) a blend thereof. Though all-natural latex mattresses are available, they are the least common and most expensive. Natural latex, produced from the rubber tree, is known for its softness and elasticity, as well as its biodegradability and inherent resistance to bacteria, mold and dust mites. That said, as a natural product, it is inherently subject to greater variations in quality. Synthetic latex, made through a chemical process using petroleum-based materials, shares many of the same physical properties as natural latex, but often has a slightly stiffer feel and is thought by some to better maintain its resiliency over a very long period of time. Blends of natural and synthetic latex generally aim to capture the advantages of both natural and synthetic latex and thus have become quite popular. Mattress manufacturers using blended latex often claim that it combines the elasticity of natural latex with the consistent quality and durability of synthetic latex.

Some latex also includes "fillers," tiny particles of clay or other materials that are mixed into the foam, making the resulting latex less costly, but also stiffer and less durable. The term "pure latex" typically refers to latex that does not include fillers, and can be applied to either synthetic or natural latex. Most higher-quality latex mattresses use pure latex.

Latex Production Techniques
There are two different production processes used to make latex mattresses, the differences in which are largely a matter of personal preference. The older, more established process (dating back over 75 years) is known as Dunlop, while the newer, more involved (and more expensive) process is known as Talalay. In the Dunlop process, liquid latex is "whipped" with air until it becomes wet foam, at which time it is poured into a mold, hardened, and vulcanized. In the Talalay process, the wet latex foam is similarly poured into a mold, but extra room is left at the top of the mold. Once the mold is sealed, air is vacuumed out of the mold, causing the foam to expand such that it fills the empty space inside the mold. The mold is then frozen and quickly vulcanized, locking in the expanded structure of the foam. Not surprisingly, Talalay latex is generally softer and less dense, while Dunlop latex tends to be firmer and heavier.

Latex Mattress Manufacturers
Unlike with certain other types of beds, the latex mattress market is not dominated by a single brand. That said, some of the more well-known latex mattress brands include Nature's Rest, SpringFree (Sealy), Nature's Finest (Englander), FloBeds and Sleep EZ.

Latex Mattress:The Next Big Thing in the Mattress Industry

(Latex Mattress)

Most people only purchase a mattress once every few years (if even that frequently). Therefore, they don't keep up on the latest offerings in the industry until they actually go into the store buy a mattress. That means that the majority of consumers are unaware of the newest trend to hit the market. Latex mattresses have become extremely popular recently, and for good reason. You may not know about this phenomenon, so here's some info that will get you started next time you head out shopping for a new mattress to place in your bedroom.

Traditional mattresses use a combination of springs and foam to provide comfort. This setup comes with a significant disadvantage, however. Each of those springs represents a pressure point on your body. With a latex mattress, you can completely get rid of that entire problem, because there are no springs to worry about! This is the reason that many orthopedists recommend a latex mattress to their patients who suffer from chronic back pain.

The first concept to tackle: what exactly is latex? This versatile compound is used in more instances than you may have previously thought. Latex is a form of rubber that is found naturally as well as manufactured. Your mattress may contain completely natural latex, man made latex, or a combination of the two.

Latex mattresses have some key advantages over their more traditional counterparts. If you're allergic, a latex mattress may be the answer you've been looking for. These mattresses are extremely resistant to dust mites, as well as being anti-microbial. Latex is also much more resilient to impressions than normal mattresses, including memory foam. That means that there won't be any more sagging areas of the mattress, especially right in the center. Instead, a latex mattress supports the body by responding to your natural curves. That means a more comfortable night of sleep! Latex also "breathes", which means that you'll be cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Best of all, latex mattresses can last up to twenty years. While you may pay more initially for your latex, you'll save money in the long run because of its extreme durability.

You also may be asking what the difference is between latex and memory foam. While the comfort levels may be similar, you might be risking your health by choosing memory foam. The materials used in creating memory foam are considered to be toxic by some well-known names in the industry. That's certainly not a good thing. Is it really worth risking you and your children's health to save a few bucks? That's a question that you'll have to ask yourself.

Purchasing a new mattress is a huge decision when you consider how much time you actually spend laying down in it. For that reason, you should save up your money and purchase the best of the best. These days, if you're looking for top-notch quality, your search is bound to end up with a new latex mattress resting in your bedroom.

Your mattress has a lot to do with how well you sleep. With sleep being so important to your wellbeing buying a mattress is definitely not something you want to skimp on. New technology has just made an amazing new kind mattresses possible.

Better then latex mattresses you ask? Most definitely. Find out for yourself what makes this new kind of mattress worthy of all its praise.

Sustainable Natural Latex Mattresses

(Latex Mattress)

Natural latex mattresses not only provide an unsurpassed sleep surface, they replace conventional inner-spring mattresses, which generally end up in the landfill, with a sustainable resource. Natural latex mattresses use rubber harvested from the milky sap of the rubber tree (hevea brasilienises), with a small percentage of natural fillers. Latex was originally harvested from rubber trees that grew in the wild in Brazil and had been used by indigenous people for centuries. The rubber trees were widely dispersed, with a natural tendency to grow far from each other, making harvesting extremely inefficient. As demand for rubber grew, seeds were eventually transplanted in what is present day Malaysia with great success.

In an era when we are surrounded by synthetic materials which greatly tax our environment and resources, natural latex represents the best that Mother Nature has to offer. Anyone who has slept on a latex mattress can attest to the incomparable comfort from the natural ability of latex to distribute body weight and relieve pressure points. In addition latex is a very durable material, creating mattresses that regularly last for 20 or more years, without any significant changes in the support or feel of the mattress. Rubber trees are now grown on plantations in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, South Asia, Africa and South America, providing jobs for numerous indigenous workers. Latex is very efficiently harvested and trees that have reached the end of their productive cycle are replaced and the lumber is used for furniture and in construction.

It is not only refreshing to sleep on a natural latex mattress, but also to know that it's a bio-degradable resource that is easily replenished. Conventional inner-spring mattresses carry with them a variety of hazards. The new federal open-flame fire standards for mattresses have added more than a pound and a half of possible toxic chemicals in the ticking of the average queen mattress. These chemicals can create toxic off-gases that are released into our home environment and then the chemicals are dumped along with the mattresses into land fills, with components that will not bio-degrade. Simply put, once a conventional mattress has outlived its usefulness, generally 2- 7 years, they become a nuisance to our environment.

As with many products, consumers are rethinking traditional purchases and looking for green alternatives that are toxin-free and environmentally friendly. Articles that stress the need for safer materials and chemical for use in the home abound and many of these express concerns about "toxic mattresses." A little research will find extensive discussions about the dangers of toxic fire-retardant chemicals in mattresses. When newborns and infants are involved, the purchase of a green mattress is one of the most important decisions a parent can make, as certain fire-retardants are banned in Europe and have been linked to SIDS.

Much of the latex used in mattresses is a blend of synthetic and natural latex to lower the cost and, perhaps, to add some durability. However, it is the natural properties of latex which set it apart. Only natural latex is anti-microbial, hyper-allergenic and a sustainable resource. In addition, it is the natural latex that creates the feel that has made latex mattresses so popular. Synthetic latex would feel just like polyurethane foam without the addition of natural latex.

Do your body a favor and investigate the feel of an all natural latex mattress. Much of what Mother Nature has supplied cannot be duplicated by artificial means, and natural latex is no exception. A natural latex mattress will last for 20 or more years, has an unsurpassed feel, the wonderful qualities of remaining free from dust mites, mold and allergens and is created from a resource that is green and sustainable. Going green has never felt better!

A Latex Mattress Naturally Resists Dust Mites

(Latex Mattress)

Research shows that the household dust mite, in particular its feces, is the most common cause of bronchial asthma and other chronic sinus or respiratory conditions. The periodic replacement of a mattress is one of the primary methods to control allergy causing dust mites, according to Duncan Bain, a leading researcher. Bain has been involved in the development of British, European and international standards for the evaluation of mattresses and cushions and states that "the number of people effected is rising throughout Europe (and indeed world wide), now impairing the health and quality of life of a substantial proportions of children, as well as many adults."

Mattresses, particularly inner-spring mattresses, provide the ideal environment for dust mites as a result of the moisture our bodies give off and the dead skin that we slough off, while we are sleeping. In general, the older the mattress the larger is the dust mite concentration, which will continue to grows for years, until the mattress reaches maximum colonization. Even when the maximum density of dust mites is reached, the dead bodies and feces continue to build up over a longer period, and it's primarily the dust mite's feces that contribute to allergic reactions.

While it's unlikely that dust mites can be completely eliminated from your household, there are control measures that can be effective. Moisture is a primary environment for dust mites, and can be controlled with a dehumidifier and ventilation system. However, our bodies give off moisture while we sleep and, as a result, the highest concentrations of dust mites eventually end up in our mattresses. Dust mite barriers that are constructed of fabric, rather than plastic, can be an effective method of control, particularly when combined with mattress replacement at reasonable intervals.

A natural latex mattress is the most effective solution for allergic reactions to dust mites and their feces. Latex naturally resists dust mites and is hypo-allergenic, anti-microbial and resistant to mold, mildew and fungus. When a latex mattress is combined with a natural wool cover, also naturally resistant to dust mites, the environment for dust mite colonization is almost null. A natural wool cover, or an organic wool mattress pad, that can be removed and aired out for six hours or more on a sunny day will completely eliminate the possibility of dust mite colonization. Of course, the fact that natural latex is the most comfortable and durable of all sleeping surfaces, gives you a feeling for the finest choice available in quality mattresses.

Latex Mattress Products

(Latex Mattress)

There are of course many mattresses, mattress products and other mattress items on the market, and it is important to shop around for not only the best price but the best quality and value as well. When it comes to buying latex mattress products this focus on quality is even more important.

After all, while many other mattresses and mattress toppers are designed merely for comfort, a latex mattress is also designed to provide real world usefulness, and the quality of the latex that is used in the construction of the mattress is an essential consideration for the shopper.

The fact is that a latex mattress product that is easily torn or easily damaged will quickly become useless, and given the often high prices of these mattress products it is a bad idea to settle for poor quality. While a poor quality latex mattress may be less expensive to buy up front, it will quickly become more expensive if it needs to be replaced every couple of years. A high quality mattress product, made using the highest quality materials and construction methods, can last for many years, and these high quality products will be the most cost effective solution in the long run.

Of course, every maker of latex mattress products claims to make the best product on the market, so it pays to know what to look for. One of the most important places to look is on the local newsstand. The various consumer oriented magazines often run regular reviews of mattresses, mattress toppers and sleep systems, and they can be a great source of information on which products are the best and which are best avoided.

Of course the search for the best mattress products goes beyond the local newsstand, and there are plenty of product reviews on the internet as well. Some of these product review sites allow real users to share their ideas and experience regarding different brands and models of mattress topper, while others take a more structured and scientific approach to finding the best latex mattress products. It is generally a good idea to read several different reviews of the same model and brand in order to get a real feel for what you can expect.

After you have narrowed the many choices down to the best latex mattress products on the market, it is important to get the best possible price on the mattress and mattress accessories you need. 5 Things All Latex Mattress Manufacturers Want

(Latex Mattress)

All latex mattress manufacturers want you to understand the importance and comfort of owning your own latex mattress. Owning a latex mattress is not only stylish and trendy, but also is good for your health and the environment. Below are five good reasons to purchase yourself a latex mattress.

1. All latex mattress manufacturers want your business. Yes, you read right: they want you. How they get your business benefits you. They offer you prestige, style, and comfort at an affordable rate. Latex mattresses are quickly gaining in popularity over other mattresses. They have to compete by being better. If latex mattresses were not superior, you would not choose a latex mattress over an ordinary mattress.

2. All latex mattress manufacturers want to offer you superior quality at an affordable rate. You heard me right. Quality and affordability in the same sentence. Latex mattresses can offer you all that and then some. Latex mattresses are constructed of extremely durable and versatile latex. Even if you happen to be one of those people that are allergic to latex, a latex mattress never actually touches your sensitive skin. You have mattress pads and bedding covers that come between your sensitive skin and the latex mattress. This high-quality product was at one time almost impossible to purchase without a large quantity of money; now you can find affordability with your latex mattress.

3. All latex mattress manufacturers want you to tell your family and friends about this superior product. Of course, this is a win-win situation. You reap the rewards of this desire. Only if you are extremely pleased with your latex mattress will you tell your family and friends about how wonderful your latex mattress is for you. In addition, you have to enjoy a good night's sleep to be thoroughly pleased with your latex mattress. Your friends and family will be able to see a difference in your daily life. Latex mattress manufacturers see you as a walking advertisement for their superior built mattress.

4. All latex mattress manufacturers want your complete satisfaction. Again, this comes down to you being a witness with your family and friends when it comes to their latex mattress. The complete satisfaction you show on your face, the way you walk all day, and your energy is a free advertisement to the quality of their product. When people you see on a daily basis ask you what has caused this change in you and you mention your new mattress, they will want to know more. Satisfaction means you will live a longer life; therefore, you will be a customer longer. In addition, a latex mattress is reusable: you can leave a latex mattress to a loved one in your will. What better gift could there be than leaving your loved one a gift that will last a lifetime?

5. All latex mattress manufacturers want you to be environmental friendly. You heard me. Latex mattresses are essentially the most environmentally friendly mattresses on the market today. Latex mattresses are almost 100% recyclable. The market was ready for a mattress that was 100% made from post-consumer products. A latex mattress saves the environment while it saves your back.

Latex Mattress Alternative To The Memory Foam Mattress

A Latex Mattress Is A Safer, Healthier Alternative To The Memory Foam Mattress

The latex mattress has been around for some time but its popularity waned over the years. However, recently it has enjoyed a revival, partly due to the introduction of the memory foam mattress and because people are rediscovering how this naturally sourced product is mildew, mold and dust mite resistant and is hypo-allergenic without needing any chemical treatment during its manufacturing process. It's also more fire resistant and totally free of carcinogens that can be found in memory foam.

Natural latex is obtained from the sap of the rubber tree which makes a renewable and sustainable resource. Unlike manmade foam no chemicals need to be added during the manufacturing process to make the bed mattress resistant to mold and dust mites. All polyurethane foam, including memory foam, has chemicals added to make it resistant.

More importantly, natural latex is naturally fire resistant. All polyurethane foam based mattresses, including memory foam, are extremely flammable. As a result, stringent fire regulations have been introduced which has led manufacturers to greatly increase the amount of fire retardant chemicals, called PDBEs, being added during the manufacturing process. PDBEs build up in the body in ways similar to banned PCBs and research has linked them to cancer and other illnesses.

As a result PDBEs have been banned in Europe and manufacturers are now using alternative chemical fire retardants. Unfortunately, PDBEs have not yet been banned in North America. There is a fear among some medical researchers that the use of PDBEs in mattresses may cause hundreds of thousands of cancer cases in the coming decades. PDBEs enter the body directly through the skin. If you do buy a mattress other than latex make sure it is free of PDBEs.

Another chemical present in mattresses made with polyurethane foam is formaldehyde. Each night you sleep on one you are exposed to the 'outgas' of this dangerous chemical. Formaldehyde has been shown to cause watery eyes, burning sensations in the eyes and throat, and nausea. There is growing evidence that some people can become sensitized to formaldehyde.

Contact with these chemicals can be totally eliminated by sleeping on a natural latex mattress. Additionally, the mattresses often come quilted with organic cotton and wool making them a more eco-friendly product.

Just like a memory foam mattress, latex also conforms to the exact body shape of the sleeper. However, latex isn't temperature sensitive and it conforms immediately so there's no sinking feeling when you lie down or rollover. It also distributes weight evenly and eliminates pressure points and there's no need to ever flip it.

There are a number of good quality latex mattresses on the market such as the Simmons Natural Care and Jamison Talalay mattresses. They come in different configurations offering, firm, soft and plush with a wide choice of fabric coverings.

From its near vanishing into the pages of history, the latex bed mattress is making a strong comeback. Many consumers appreciate the pressure relieving qualities of memory foam mattress but want a safe, natural product. What they're discovering is that it was there all along.

Follow the links for the Jamison Talalay mattress and find out more about the memory foam mattress and make up your own mind about which is the best bed mattress for you.

Create Revitalizing Sleep With a Natural Latex Mattress

(Latex Mattress)

No single component of our lives is more important than creating a safe refuge for healthy, revitalizing sleep. We spend a third of our lives in bed and the quality of our sleep is directly related to the comfort of our sleeping products. Today the emphasis is clearly on creating a chemical-free bedroom. It's a simple truth that our indoor air is 3-5 times more polluted than the air outside. The use of harsh chemical cleaners has contributed to indoor pollution, and many are not aware of toxic off-gassing from the wide variety of chemicals used in furniture, bedding and, particularly, mattresses.

A soothing environment in the bedroom creates a relaxing space away from the hustle and bustle of our day to day lives. Bring a little as possible of your busy life into the bedroom and, if you feel the need for a TV in the bedroom, make sure you can hide it from view and don't use it to help fall asleep. Some simple routines for relaxation before bed, while you are stretched out on the bed can be very helpful. Couples can try a variety of massage techniques, which are great for relieving stress and bring a new sense of intimacy into the bedroom. Lighting that can be dimmed and soothing music enhance the feeling of a safe refuge for both singles and partners. Creating the right environment gives you the opportunity to reward yourself, and everyone in your family, for the efforts of a busy day.

Once you have set a soothing mood in your bedroom, the next step is the comfort of your mattress. There are two primary considerations in the comfort and safety of your mattress choices. First, there are very real concerns about toxic fire-retardant chemicals in most conventional mattresses, which can affect your health when they are absorbed by your body......and they will be absorbed. Educate yourself about these changes in the composition of your mattresses to protect yourself and, particularly, your growing children. The concerns are real, and natural, chemical-free mattresses have seen a tremendous increase in popularity as a result. The second consideration is the significant improvements in comfort and durability that are offered by foam mattresses in comparison to conventional inner-spring mattresses. Foam mattresses are available using two different types of foam, polyurethane and latex. These two types of foam have some similarities and yet are very different in their qualities and benefits. Both mattresses are superior to inner-springs in their ability to comfortably distribute body weight, relieve pressure points and their durability, often out lasting 2 or 3 conventional inner-spring mattresses.

However, the similarities end there. Natural latex, a sustainable resource, has become the most popular material for all natural mattresses and is unsurpassed in comfort and durability. A latex mattress, covered in organic cotton and wool, will free you from concerns over toxic off-gassing from your mattress and is the ultimate is creating soothing and restful sleep. Get the rest and relaxation your and your family deserve, no other area of your life can contribute so much to your health and sense of well-being. When you start a new day rested and full of energy, so much more can be accomplished in your work, play and relationships. Foster your intimate relationship by surrounding yourself in comfort, using the finest material nature has provided, natural latex. A latex mattress can last for 20 years or more, all the time supporting you on the most comfortable possible sleeping surface. Make certain that the many years you will spend sleeping contribute in every possible way to relaxing and revitalizing your life by spending your nights on a natural latex mattress.

Latex Mattress:What Kind of Mattress Should I Buy?

(Latex Mattress)

Sleep replenishes the physical and psychological energy spent during the day. It helps mental and physical well being. Lose sleep and you’re dull, depressed and irritated. Buying a mattress is a very important investment in your future health and happiness. But with all the different kinds of mattresses out there today, how do you know which one is right for you?

The two main things to consider when buying a mattress are support and comfort.

Support:

Your mattress needs to support the natural curve of your spine. Okay, but what does that mean? It means you need to maintain the same natural alignment whey you’re laying down as when you’re standing. If your mattress doesn’t have enough support, it will sag, throwing your spine out of alignment. A mattress can also be too firm which tends to only support the heaviest parts of your body. It might help to try this: take a teddy bear or a doll and lay it on the table. You can see there are spaces between the doll and the table. The table is only supporting the areas of the doll that are connecting with the table. Now put the doll on a pillow. The pillow comes into contact with the entire length of the doll with no spaces in between. This is what you need from your mattress. You want it to be firm, yet still conform to your body. Here is a general guideline to follow –

• Back or stomach sleepers generally do better with a firmer mattress because it will not allow them to sag into the surface at an unnatural angle. Air, water or foam mattresses are not generally recommended because they do not provide this level of support.

• Side Sleepers usually place the greatest amount of weight on the smallest areas of the body thereby creating pressure points. A side sleeper will probably want a softer mattress, especially if they have a very curved or rounded figure.

• Since children are lighter, they need a softer sleeping surface or else the mattress will not conform to their bodies.

• A new mattress should always be placed on a firm base, never a saggy one. The box springs do much of the work for the mattress by absorbing stress and weight. The correct foundation can extend the life of the mattress, therefore you should try to purchase the box springs designed to go with your mattress.

TIP – You can always soften up a firm mattress with pads and toppers.

Comfort:

There is no one-mattress-fits-all. We are all different and have different ideas as to what’s comfortable or not. My best advice here is to go to a mattress store and try out the mattresses. Lay on them in the position you normally sleep in. Here are some different kinds of mattresses you might consider–

• Pocketed Coil Innerspring - helps reduce motion of the mattress. If you wake up every time your partner moves, this type of mattress will help.

Latex - It’s impression resistant, conforms to the contour of your body while offering support, hypoallergenic and bacteria and mildew resistant. It also has great breath-ability, it will keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Of course, those with latex allergies should choose something else.

• Multi-Zoned LatexLatex mattress cores are always made with holes in them. These holes soften the latex and make it comfortable. The larger the holes, the softer the latex core becomes. Most mattresses have the same size holes throughout the mattress giving it a uniform feel. The multi-zoned mattress has sections with different size holes. This gives the mattress different zones making it softer or firmer in different areas.

• Pillow Top – This is a mattress with an extra layer sewn to the top to create a pillow feel. It’s great for support and comfort. You can get the same effect using a mattress pad or topper.

So, try out some different types of mattresses keeping in mind how well they will support you. If you’re sharing your bed with someone who has different requirements, you might consider using two twin beds side by side. You should also check to see if the store you’re purchasing from has an exchange policy. This allows you to exchange your mattress for another if you find you purchased one that wasn’t quite right for you.

Reasons to Choose a Jamison Talalay Latex Mattress

(Latex Mattress)

Jamison has been making mattresses longer than most. Today the company has established itself as a producer of premium mattresses. If you're looking to buy a new mattress here are some reasons to consider a Jamison Talalay latex mattress.
Latex is ideal as a material in the manufacture of mattresses. Unlike traditional mattresses made of inner-springs and cotton fabric, latex is inherently hypo-allergenic. Bacteria, mildew and mold can't live in latex foam. It is also much more resistant to dust mites than mattresses made with cotton ticking. Therefore, a Jamison Talalay mattress is ideal for anyone who suffers from allergies.
A Talalay mattress from Jamison differs from ordinary latex. Here is a brief description of how Talalay latex is made.

1.Whipped, liquid rubber is poured into a mold, until it foams.

2.Inside the mold a vacuum removes bubbles/pockets and distributes the liquid rubber evenly through the mold.

3.CO2 is used to freeze the foamed rubber. The CO2 'locks in' the consistency of the latex.

4.Heat is then applied, providing even temperature and yielding a consistent latex core without air pockets or uneven firmnesses.

The finished product produces latex cores superior in comfort, durability, and in a greater range of firmnesses from very soft to super firm. This is why Jamison uses Talalay latex in its mattresses.

Many people complain about feeling too hot in summer and too cold in winter when sleeping on a 'memory foam' mattress. This isn't true with a Jamison Talalay mattress because latex breathes thereby removing body moisture, keeping you warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.

Another reason to choose a Jamison Talalay mattress is the 'no flip' factor. You never have to turn a latex mattress. The superior quality of a Jamison Talalay mattress means that it retains its shape and provides optimal support over many years. Jamison promotes its exclusive Comfort Support System for Talalay mattress. It means you choose which comfort level you desire - very soft to very firm. You never have to turn the mattress except to change your firmness!

Time and again, Jamison Talalay mattresses score highly in many consumers' reviews. A Jamison Talalay isn't the cheapest mattress you can buy but it's one of the best. Others claim to make latex mattresses, but not all latex mattresses are equal. When you lie down on a Jamison Talalay mattress with Comfort Support System you can rest assured it's one of the best mattresses money can buy.

Visit bestchoicemattress.com for mattress reviews to help you decide what is the best memory foam mattress. You can get advice on buying a Serta, Simmons, Tempur-Pedic or Jamison Talalay mattress amongst others.

Latex Mattress:The Importance of Choosing Quality Latex

(Latex Mattress)

Latex mattresses have become the rage on the internet of late and, of course, can vary greatly in price. While the height of the mattress and the quality of the cover are important details in the purchase of a latex mattress, the most important consideration is the source of the latex. Latex can be provided as a blend of synthetic and natural latex, or as all natural latex.

Latex is produced by two different methods, the Dunlop process and the Talalay process, and either process can produce natural latex or blended latex. Adding to the confusion is the prevalence of some mattress and latex suppliers to use the term natural latex for any latex that contains some percentage of natural latex. Equally confusing is the term 100% natural latex, as all latex includes some residual proteins, soap and zinc, and at most can be about 97% natural latex.

The single most important consideration is the actual source of the latex utilized for your mattress, and then the determination of natural or blended latex. All natural latex mattresses have become very popular for consumers who are trying to create a bedroom free of synthetics and chemicals. However blended latex is possibly more durable than all natural and certainly offers all the benefits that latex provides for a premium sleep surface. Considering the durability and extended warranties offered for latex mattresses, it's worth the cost to purchase latex that you are certain comes from well established latex manufacturers such as Latex International, Dunlopillo, Latex Green, and others. Avoid latex of indeterminate origins as it's very difficult to ascertain the quality of latex from manufacturers that don't handle latex in the high volumes of more established companies.

A latex mattress is an investment in the quality of life for you and your family and it is not unusual for a quality latex mattress to outlast even two or three conventional innerspring mattresses. The value of the sleep comfort associated with latex mattresses extends into all your waking hours in the form of revitalized energy for work, play and relationships. The quality of the latex utilized in your mattress, whether it is a latex blend or all natural latex, determines the quality of your investment.

So when you begin the process of purchasing a latex mattress, begin by first determining the origins of the latex and its composition. You will probably already have decided if you are looking for an all natural latex mattress, usually with an organic cover, or a mattress using blended latex. Both offer the excellent weight distribution and relief of pressure points that have made latex such a popular sleeping surface. If you are making your purchase online, make certain that you have the opportunity to discuss the details of the latex with a knowledgeable salesperson. While some bargains might be available in quality latex, assure yourself that that you have confidence in the manufacturer of the latex that you are purchasing. There are no shortcuts in the manufacturing of latex, Talalay is a more expensive process than Dunlop, as two additional steps are added in the processing, and all natural latex is more expensive to produce than blended latex. Consistency in the manufacturing of latex will assure you that the ILD numbers for the latex will be accurate and that the latex will be uniform in its ILD. Uniformity is particularly true for the Talalay process as the extra steps involved in its manufacturing are designed specifically to more evenly distribute the latex.

Careful research on the quality of the latex in the mattress you intend to purchase will continue to pay dividends in the comfort and durability of your new mattress for years to come. Verify the manufacturer, whether the latex is blended or all natural and avoid bargain latex and purchase that perfect mattress for the unsurpassed comfort of a latex sleep surface.

Natural Latex Mattresses - A Chiropractic Solution

(Latex Mattress)

An important option in the new federal open-flames mattress standards allows doctors, osteopaths and chiropractors to prescribe natural mattresses to patients with chemical sensitivities. The results of research by the CPSC clearly shows that every man, woman and child will absorb the chemical fire-retardants currently used in mattresses and also chemicals used to fire proof mattresses under the previous codes. Many of these chemicals have documented side effects, causing them to be banned in Europe and California. None of us need to risk the exposure to chemicals in the mattresses on which we spend up to a third of our lives!

One group that has been at the forefront of alternative health concerns is chiropractors, who take a preventative approach to many of the risks of our modern lifestyles. Chiropractors commonly use nutrition, exercise, patient education, health promotion and lifestyle counseling as part of their holistic outlook towards preventive health care. Chiropractors also stress the importance of prevention and primarily utilize a pro-active approach and a wellness model to achieve this goal. The emphasis in chiropractic care recognizes the dynamics between lifestyle, environment, and health, taking a holistic approach to prevention of disease. Because chiropractors emphasize the alignment of our spine as primary to the health of our nervous system and our overall well-being, many have already introduced healthier mattress solutions to their clients.

Certainly the concerns over toxic fire-retardant chemicals have begun to replace the emphasis on mattresses that are more effective in aligning the spine, particularly where newborns and infants are involved. Crib mattresses are held to the same open-flame standards and generally have some the worst chemicals in order to save costs. When an all natural mattress in considered natural latex is the hands down winner. All natural latex simply supplies everything that is best in a mattress. Latex mattresses are unsurpassed in weight distribution and relief of pressure points and are antimicrobial, hypoallergenic and naturally resistant to dust mites.

A natural latex mattress is often covered in organic materials, including wool, which is a natural fire-retardant. Now you have the best of both worlds, a mattress that very effectively aligns the spine and is chemical-free, without the toxic off-gassing associated with polyurethane foam mattresses. It could not be more important to protect the sleeping environment for your children. The rise in asthma, allergies, respiratory problems and even autism has prompted widespread public concerns about potential environmental causes. Certainly children are exposed to a constantly increasing amount of chemicals in their environment. The evidence is clear that our bodies absorb these chemicals, including the fire-retardants in our mattresses, that many of these chemicals have documented harmful side effects.

Consult with a professional, such as your chiropractor or doctor, to insure that you are creating the healthiest possible sleeping environment for your children and yourself. With so much uncertainty over toxic chemicals used to comply with the new open-flame mattress standards, it's best to error on the side of caution, particularly with newborn and infants whose bodies and respiratory systems are developing so rapidly. A natural latex mattress has been proven to be the most effective solution for a safe sleeping environment.

Natural Latex Foam Mattresses: A Healthy Alternative to Memory Foam

(Latex Mattress)

Did you know that natural latex foam mattresses, made from the latex sap of the rubber tree, are a much safer alternative to the popular memory foam mattresses? Memory foam mattresses, like most commercially available mattresses, are made from petroleum based polyurethane foam, an extremely flammable material. Known as "solid gasoline" by firefighters, the polyurethane foam in most commercially available mattresses burns so furiously that strict new fire resistance standards have been written into law, starting with California in 2005 and going nationwide in 2006. These strict new fire resistance standards are being met by tripling the amount of fire retardant chemicals, called PDBEs, that are added to manufacture memory foam mattresses and mattress toppers.

Most mattress purchasers are unaware of the fire danger posed by polyurethane mattresses. But the greater danger may be the higher concentrations of PDBEs used to help prevent combustion in memory foam mattresses. PDBEs build up in the body in ways similar to banned PCBs, and they have been linked to cancer and other illnesses. PDBEs have already been banned in Europe, but not in North America. Some medical researchers believe that the extra load of PDBEs in newly made mattresses will cause millions of cancer cases in the coming decades. Because you lie directly on your mattress for 8 hours every night, your body has its greatest contact with the dangerous PDBEs while you sleep, and they pass right through your skin.

The solution to the PDBE problem is to do what the Europeans already do, sleep on natural latex mattresses. Natural latex mattresses are made from the sap of the tropical rubber tree. Natural latex foam does not burn well, and most natural latex mattresses are also quilted with organic cotton and wool which makes them very fire resistant, complying with all current fire codes.

Latex foam comes a variety of densities for different firmness needs, and, unlike memory foam, it doesn't have to heat up to cradle the body--the effect is immediate. Most people find 100% natural latex foam mattresses to be incredibly comfortable, relieving pressure points and improving circulation. Another great characteristic of latex is its durability. Latex mattresses have been known to last up to 30 years. Because of their resilience, latex mattresses do not need to be turned like innerspring mattresses.

Because latex mattresses do not have innersprings, they require a firmer foundation than the traditional boxsprings. Latex mattresses can be used with a platform bed, a slat foundation which looks like traditional boxsprings, but has slats on the top, or a solid wood foundation, which also looks like boxsprings but has a plywood top usually covered by fabric.

Chemical-free natural latex mattresses are produced by a number of North American manufacturers, the largest of which are Vivetique - Crown City Mattress, located in South El Monte, California, and Obasan, located in Ottawa, Canada. There are also a number of European importers of natural latex foam mattresses, the biggest of which is Green Sleep from Belgium.

Retailers of natural latex mattresses include a variety of local mattress stores who carry products from these manufacturers. There are also nationwide web retailers, like Dax Stores, which usually have the best prices for these natural latex mattresses.

Latex Mattress:Information of Latex Mattress

(Latex Mattress)

Latex comes from the sap of rubber trees. The whitish liquid sap from rubber trees is commonly used to make rubber, foam, latex gloves, latex mattresses and many other types of products. This highly versatile substance makes exceptional mattresses. Latex mattresses are high quality and offer many advantages over synthetic mattresses. Because they are made from 100% organic material, latex mattresses are environmentally friendly, which is a trait greatly appreciated by socially and environmentally conscious consumers.

Additionally, latex mattresses are an excellent choice for allergy sufferers. Latex actually contains ingredients known to repel dust mites. Therefore, latex mattresses are guaranteed to remain dust-free at all times. Additionally, other potential allergens are not able to attach themselves to a latex mattress. Your latex mattress will remain dust and allergy free by simply following a basic cleaning routine. This is a major advantage over synthetic mattresses, which are known to harbor dust and other allergens.

Latex mattresses are also very comfortable. Many people assert that latex mattresses are more comfortable than any other type of mattresses. Latex has the unique quality of proving your body with the perfect amount of support and firmness, without being too soft or too hard. If you have never slept on a latex mattress, you will be surprised to see how comfortable it is.
Another benefit of latex is a result of the airy nature of the organic material from which it is made. A defining characteristic of latex is its ability to breath freely. It therefore maintains an appropriate temperature throughout all seasons. Latex mattresses are noted and appreciated for their ability to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Latex mattresses are an excellent choice no matter how you look at your mattress purchasing decision. What better solution than to purchase an organic mattress that is comfortable, dust and allergen free, and also is manufactured in an environmentally responsible manner.

A Latex Crib Mattress

Consider a Natural Latex Crib Mattress

With the steady rise in children's health problems such as autism, asthma, allergies, and other respiratory problems, it certainly best to limit exposure to any possible sources of contact with toxic chemicals or their off-gassing. There is no better place to start than your infants crib mattresses which, unfortunately, are often passed down in our families. Infants are developing so rapidly and spend so much time on their crib mattresses, that it is imperative that we keep their crib as safe as possible. The safest of all materials for crib mattresses is all natural latex.

Research into toxic crib mattresses will turn up several very significant concerns. Many current fire-retardants, saturating mattresses to pass the open-flame standards, contain boric acid and antimony. Antimony is a heavy metal which even the CPSC acknowledges will be absorbed over time and will bioaccumulate in our body. Antimony has been banned in Europe due to concerns that it contributes to SIDS. Many crib mattresses are made from polyurethane foam, which tends to off-gas formaldehyde as it breaks down. The dangers of this chemical are well documented, and they have significant negative impact on developing respiratory systems.

Older crib mattresses often contain PBDEs, an inexpensive fire-proofing chemical banned in Europe because of high concentrations in the milk of nursing mothers. All of these chemicals are know to leach through the vinyl covering of the standard crib mattress. Because of the warm moist environment on a crib mattress, it is a natural breeding ground for mold, mildew and fungus. When mold and fungus break down polyurethane foam it can form highly toxic off-gases, which may also be a significant source of SIDS.

Consider an all natural latex crib mattress and its benefits. Latex is the most comfortable of all mattress surfaces, gently conforming to your babies sleeping position. Latex resists mold, mildew and fungus and is naturally hypo-allergenic, anti-microbial and resists dust mites. Latex absorbs very little moisture and when protected with a natural wool moisture barrier helps keep the crib dry, clean and free from bacteria. When the health of your newborn or children is concerned, a latex mattress will assure you that they are in nature's safest sleeping environment.

It would not be difficult, utilizing current research into the many methods of fire-proofing mattresses, to set off a general cry of alarm about the long-term consequences of exposure to the various chemical which saturate mattresses. However, a far simpler approach is provided by a natural latex mattress, covered with wool. Wool is a natural fire-retardant and is particularly effective in transporting moisture. Mother Nature really does know best! Your children are a precious gift, as is much of what is provided in the nature. By using natural materials, a latex mattress not only provides unsurpassed comfort, but also creates peace of mind, knowing that your children are not spending hours at a time in direct contact with "chemical beds".

With so much at stake, isn't it much better to error on the side of caution when your newborn or children are concerned. In no other situation will your children be in such close proximity or direct contact with any surface. Infants are developing their respiratory system so rapidly that you want their little lungs to be breathing only the purest possible air. There is not a question if certain mattresses off-gas, even the CPSC has documented how much of specific chemicals we absorb. As adults, we've developed completely and built up our immune systems, but this is not the case for children as they develop. Chemical exposure to your developing child can be very dangerous. Keep your children safe on a latex crib mattress.

Natural Latex Mattress Is the New Foam

(Latex Mattress)

A natural latex mattress is the new wave in mattress cores. They have already moved through Europe and are now making their way to the United States. These mattresses offer a firm, but comfortable nights sleep. Even mainstream companies, like Sealy, are beginning to make latex mattresses.
The natural latex comes from countries like Sri Lanka, Malaysia, or Indonesia. It comes from the Hevea brasiliensis tree that is grown in the area on large tree plantations. The latex is harvested by removing thing strips of bark from the trees and allowing the substance to flow down the grooves into collection cups.

Finding a mattress that is all natural may be a difficult process. Most companies use a blend of synthetically made latex and natural latex to create their mattresses. This makes the core more resilient, according to the companies. The Naturalists are quick to disagree with this theory. They believe that there is a difference and that only an all natural latex mattress will be as durable as people desire. Since the price of these mattress can be much more than traditional mattresses (which need to be replaced every 5 to 10 years), it is important that they last a long time.

According to most experts, the natural latex mattress will last almost indefinitely. It is dense, but comfortable - mainly due to pincore holes placed through out the mattress. The larger the pincore holes, the softer the mattress.

Finding the natural latex mattress could be as simple as a few clicks of the keyboard, but remember that many companies are using a blend. Ask questions, check the company's history, and make sure the mattress you purchase is completely natural.

While the expense may seem like a lot in the present, buying a natural latex mattress is an investment into the future. This may be one bed that you can actually hand down to your children with pride (and something that they want as well).

Get a Better Night's Sleep on a Latex Mattress

(Latex Mattress)

It's one of the main causes of a poor nights rest, an uncomfortable mattress. Like almost any piece of furniture we buy a mattress ages, and unlike a nice bottle of wine it doesn't get better as it gets older. To keep up with a good nights rest as our mattresses age we need to replace them, not just for a good nights rest but also to ensure we avoid any other negative health effects such as back troubles

The variety of mattresses to choose from today is pretty broad, how ever one that seems to be poking it's head above the rest is a latex mattress. Also known as orthopaedic mattresses, they can also sometimes be confused with memory foam mattresses.

What exactly is a Latex Mattress

Any mattress that comes with a latex core is known as a lates mattress. The core is what gives it the springy feeling when you lay on it. The core is actually a large piece of latex that has multiple holes in it designed to give the mattress a softer or more rigid feel. The larger the holes in the latex core the softer the mattress feels to you.

The best latex mattresses are the ones that have a varying firmness where your body needs it most. For instance a firmer feel under your back and neck, but softer under the feet and shoulders. Different points of our body need different support while we're sleeping so varying the core of the mattress with different pieces of latex enables this to happen.

The majority of latex mattresses out today come layered with more then just latex on top. The better mattresses use both latex and memory foam. The memory foam helps relieve pressure on your body that the latex core can't do alone. Of course you can always add a memory foam topper to any mattress, purchasing a better latex mattress with the memory foam layer built in is the best way to go.

Natural or Synthetic?

There are two types of latex used in fabricating mattresses. Natural latex and synthetic latex. Natural latex is of course more expensive then the man made synthetic latex. How ever in terms of feel and durability there isn't really a difference.

Synthetic latex is created using two different processes. The more traditional and widely spread method is known as the Dunlop method. The second, and more complex process of the two is the Talalay method. The best latex mattresses are made using Talalay latex, it's quite a bit lighter, and less dense feeling then those made using the Dunlop method.
